The California Office of Statewide Public Health Planning and Development( OSHPD) has awarded CDU over $ 5,491,295 to the Psychiatry Residency Program, opening 36 new residency slots.
The OSHPD grant is a part of the Mental Health Services Act, which aligns with our mission to combat physician burnout,” stated COM Dean Deborah Prothrow-Stith. OSHPD also awarded CDU’ s Mervyn M. Dymally School of Nursing $ 1,690,500.“ This grant will help us continue to recruit and train Public Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, most of who we draw from communities of color and who are also underrepresented in the health professions,” said MMDSON Dean Dr. Diane Breckenridge. The grants were part of a $ 17.3 Million grants initiative to seven programs to help further build the pipeline of public mental health professionals in California.

Dr. Sheila Young Honored

In addition to receiving the CDU 2020 Outstanding Faculty Award for Community Service, Dr. Sheila Young was honored as a Brawny Giant for the University’ s COVID-19 Testing Efforts. CDU also received a $ 10,000 donation in part to support the 7 HCC( Health Career Connection) Interns who contributed immensely to testing efforts. Dr. Young also received the 2020 HCC Alumni of Distinction award.
Ariel Hart, MPH Selected as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Research Scholar Ariel Hart, MSTP MD / PhD Program Class of 2024. has been selected for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Research Scholars program. Designed for doctoral students from historically marginalized backgrounds and populations underrepresented in specific disciplines, Health Policy Research scholars help researchers from all fields apply their work to policies that advance equity and health while building a diverse field of leaders.
