COLLEGE OF MEDICINE
Discussion
An independent medical education program has been part of CDU ' s radar since at least 1981, when the University ' s partnership with UCLA to create the MEP program began. Initial efforts occurred in the early 2000s and the endeavor was highlighted by a letter from then-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to UC Board of Regents Chair Gerald Parsky, stating the need for CDU to expand to a four-year program.
Further, CDU ' s strategic mission and vision, as outlined in its 2016-2020 Strategic Plan, sets the stage for the growth occurring across the University and specifically the creation of the independent medical education program within the College of Medicine. 1 Additionally, Recommendation 2.5 of the California Future Healthcare Workforce Commission ' s 2019 Report encouraged support for the CDU independent medical education program. 2
