Psychiatry Resident Dr. Jacob Gutierrez selected as a REACH Scholar
Second year CDU Psychiatry resident Dr. Jacob Gutierrez has been selected as a REACH program scholar. He will participate in an intensive 1-week course at Yale University that teaches participants about key structures that create and perpetuate health disparities in addiction and co-occurring mental disorders, and ways to mitigate these factors.
He will also receive direct mentorship about how to pursue an effective career in addiction treatment, focusing on patients with substance use disorders in under-represented communities. He will be instructed in continuous quality improvement about best practices related to evidenced-based, culturally informed health care through the involvement of an external Advisory Board.
REACH scholars receive a stipend, including a fully funded fellowship position at their respective training programs. The program enables future addiction specialists to take care of patients in a culturally responsive way, which does not perpetuate health care disparities in addiction treatment.
CDU Hires Brakeley Briscoe to Advise on Key Fundraising Strategies
Charles R. Drew University, under the leadership of the Office of Strategic Advancement, has engaged the fundraising and organizational management firm Brakeley Briscoe to assist in specific capital campaigns including fundraising on behalf of the 4-Year Independent Medical Education Program. Brakeley Briscoe will participate in CDU ' s ' development planning and help to expand its capacity-building effort by conducting a comprehensive assessment and offering effective strategies featuring tools necessary to reach desired financial goals.
The firm notably has led fundraising efforts within the HBCU sector and has a reputation for being hands-on in its ability to develop an effective client-centered approach. Brakeley Briscoe started its work one hundred years ago with capital campaigns for Harvard and Stanford.
Brakeley Briscoe Senior Consultant Michael Brennan will speak at the February 13th meeting of the Dean ' s Advisory Council and LCME self-study groups following the annual President ' s Breakfast.
