The journey has taken us far or perhaps near
It was super cool to say “please and thank you”
Now replaced with a look or emoticon, ‘What’s that?’
Goodbyes and hellos were of necessity.
This is now deemed as non-productivity.
Quit the pleasantries and get to meat of the matter!
Time is money, I can’t afford to lose a dollar.
Opening doors for our elders was so natural.
Modern ethics teach, this is superficial.
Whoever gets there first carry out the ritual.
A fine spanking you would receive if you were not on time.
You could do worse to be caught not paying attention,
Your reward would be worse than detention.

Journey
It was always sin to feed a lazy man,
From babe to adult, the home had a work master plan.
Cleanliness was next to Godliness, every item must be checked
line up as adult came to check to find if in any area you lacked.
Your clothes weren’t really yours, with needy others you’d share.
This deep expression of love showed others you cared.
A community raised a child, on respect, trust and accountability.
But ‘I man look for I self ’ is the modern philosophy.
An erosion has taken place in modern day communication.
Family meals were together and much was said, as we moved ahead.
Before marriage, sex had to wait, now it’s done by the second date.
Many get discouraged and just quickly move ahead.
Modern day lifestyles have given us a whole lot of courage.
911 the first digits we learn in case of emergency,
Shiny rectangular box has made mom and dad’s life easier,
With the click of a button, our brain can become a disaster.
No need to stop and think or work the cells,
Labor-saving devices have been doing our jobs well.
Our minds no longer memorize, think or understand
To default to an app or gadget is our working plan.
Eyes are closed, muscles relax and consciousness suspended,
Unsure of what ten hours of sleep is like, we’re awake before it ended.
On Social Media, #team-no-sleep’ is trending.
Why do it today when you can do it tomorrow?
When tomorrow becomes today, today will become tomorrow,
yesterday though will never return which is very strange,
You will have grown so much, you will have changed.
