Note to Self
Ø If you knew the whole bible by heart, and all that philosophers
have said, what use would it all be to you without the love of God and
grace?
Ø Bear in mind this saying - that "the eye is not satisfied with seeing,
nor is the ear filled with hearing." Study therefore, to turn your heart
from the love of visible things, and to fix it upon the things unseen. For
those who yield to sensual pleasures soil their consciences, and loose the
grace of God.
Ø Every man naturally desires knowledge; but what is the use
of learning if we have not the fear of God? Certainly a humble
countryman who serves God is worthier than a proud philosopher who
studies the stars, but neglects his soul.
Ø Long discourses [debates] cannot satisfy the soul, but holiness of
life brings peace of mind, and a pure conscience cause great trust in
God.
Ø Even if you should see another commit some sin openly, or even
commit some grievous crime you must not think yourself any better:
you do not know how long you will be able to remain steadfast in God.
