T AROA “AIM TO BE THE LIGHT IN SOMEONE’S DARKNESS.” ON THE COVER MEET TRINITY: At the age of 15, Trinity has fully immersed herself in the world of performing arts. Everything from dancing, singing and acting—she does it all. She is ready at any moment to jump on stage and show off her talent. As soon as she gets the opportunity, she’s there! About Trinity She is a freshman in high school and in less than a year she has already participated in a number of professional events with the Corporate Work Study Program. Her future high school goals are to become an ambassador for her school and hold the spot of her class’s valedictorian. 40 Obstacles and Struggles Her confidence that she appears to have on stage has not always translated into her personal life. Just like everyone else, Trinity has days where her confidence just is not there. “Sometimes I feel like I am a nobody, I have no purpose in this world and I am just another person that God has put on the planet.” She feels often feels as if she has encountered a lot of hate and negativity, specifically geared towards being a plus-size teen. “I feel disrespected when I hear particular names because people feel as if they can talk down to plus-sized people.” Trinity is learning to love herself for who she is, not what other people want her to be. “The old me would of called myself “fat,” because that’s what I have always been called. Now, I consider myself a slim, thick queen who is extra curvy.” To the people that continue to put people down for their size, Trinity wants everyone to remember, “You may not be plus sized but you might have a friend that is and you wouldn’t want to offend them. If the roles were reversed you wouldn’t want someone treating you as if you were less than a person.” “I have walked into a room and felt completely uncomfortable because I was the largest one there. It happens all the time and I have to bring myself back to reality and remind myself that I am equally as beautiful as they are.” The negative thought processes often stems from being told that she is big and not beautiful. However, there are positive people around her as well, “I do have people out there that lift me up and let me know that I am somebody, I am loved and I am beautiful.” Shaping the Future Trinity often feels like her friends can come to her because she gives off comforting vibes, “There have been several times I have been a shoulder for others. For some reason, people feel that I am very comforting. That they can come and talk to me about anything.” She enjoys giving advice and someday hopes to be a therapist if her acting career does not take off. “I do get lost for words and stumble sometimes and occasionally I don’t even know what to say but I will let others know, that whatever is going on in their life, I am here for them.” Every day Trinity wakes up she tries to tell herself to aim to be the positive light in someone else’s life. “Why would you belittle a person to where they take their own life? You can talk down on them so much, where they think they are nothing.” Here is a friendly reminder—lift people up so that you can create a positive impact on them. The importance of Trinity’s role in Shaping the Future is to encourage young performing artists to keep striving. There is nothing that young people cannot accomplish. Trinity continues to encourage girls like her through her positivity, “aim to be the light in someone’s darkness.” Trinity says.
