AJC NEW YORK AND AJC WESTCHESTER / FAIRFIELD
In 2023, prior to October 7, AJC New York identified the need to address antisemitism in New York City K-12 schools, holding the first-ever AJC Parents and Schools Summit in May 2023, and over the following summer, launching AJC’ s Empowered Parents Program. The program trains Jewish parents to advocate with school administrators when antisemitic incidents occur, prepares them to talk to a faculty member who shows a strong anti-Israel bias in the classroom, and explains how to create community and allyship within school ecosystems.
The successful AJC Empowered Parents Program in New York has inspired similar initiatives launched by AJC regional offices across the country. AJC Westchester / Fairfield held a standing-room-only summit specifically designed for parents, with over 400 attendees. It proved so popular that it has been replicated again and again throughout the region.
