Introduction

SHANTIH Journal was years in the making. The earliest participants in the creation of the journal began their love affair with a high school literary magazine entitled What the Thunder Said. As these students graduated and entered into their college careers, some of them continued their love of fine arts. For some it was an avocation. Others it was their bread and butter. Years later, I've called on some of those former students of mine in order to begin our venture again. In my profession as a teacher, it's called instilling a sense of life-long learning. As a writer, it's simply a joy.

I'm excited to share with you an amazing first edition. Each edition will feature a "spotlight" writer in order to delve into the creative process. This edition focuses on the exceptional work of the wildly talented writer and film maker Joseph Johnston.
