irst Race of the 2014 Park
Race Series held at Binjiang
Forest Park, 22nd Feb 2014
The first race of the year and first
in the Shanghai Running 2014
Park Race Series saw a return
to Binjiang Forest Park, Pudong located at the mouth of the
Huangpu River, with views of the
Yangtze River.
The route was a multi - terrain
5km course featuring open green
lawns, large and small footpaths,
wooden bridges, wooded trail,
stepping stones crossing streams
and the sea wall promenade
with views of the Huangpu and
Yangtze Rivers. Also unusual for
Shanghai the course also had some
undulating sections.
This latest Shanghai Running
event saw some additions to the
overall running event program;
with entertainment from Haifeng
a Shanghai based Taiko band (Japanese drumming) and warm winter food, in the form of hot soup
and roll, provided by our food and
beverage partner FG Fine Foods,
represented by their new Shanghai
restaurant – Edge Restaurant.
After several days of persistent
rain earlier in the week and the
usual concern about air quality,
the conditions on the day were
near perfect with lots of sunshine
and good air.
Proceedings started with Shanghai Zumba once again enthusiastically taking the pre-race warm
up session , which many runners
enjoyed
The first race of the day was the
Junior and Senior Schools Open

events would not be possible.
Individual 5km race. A school
team race was also incorporated
into the race which resulted in
a much larger school children
contingent compared to previous
races. This included runners from
10 Shanghai International Schools.
The school team race which
consisted of mixed teams of male/
female runners. With each team
requiring 3 males and 3 females to
score points. The team earning
the least points winning the race.
The age ranges for the school race
was from 15 down to 9 years old,
with a junior and senior category
being run simultaneously. Individual prizes were for the first 3
male and female runners of each
age group.
The senior boys race was won by
Charles Imperore from LFS Qingpu in an impressive time of 20:23,
followed by Jean Bailet in 21:27;
with Yoav Wirtheim 3rd in a time
of 24:09.
The senior girls was won by Clemence Bureau in a fast time of 24:02,
with Rose Desperois 2nd in a time
of 26:54 and 3rd place went to

Tara Perset in 28:25 giving a clean
sweep to LFS Qingpu senior girls.
The junior boy’s race was very
closely contested with the first
three runners finishing in under
23 minutes. First place went to
