Standing Deer returned to his seated position; he crossed his ankles; “Why am I here?”

“To Learn.”

“To learn what?”

“Something you have not yet learned!”

So, Standing Deer sat on the Boulder and became very still.

Hours later, he got up and visited all three of the Rock People.

They spoke to him that day. He spent time with each one of them, learning about them and also learning from them.

He stayed with them for two days, never eating, never drinking, never sleeping. Instead, he spoke and listened and listened and listened. He heard the Rock People; he grew to understand their language, their words and teachings, even those teachings when they were silent. He could feel them and he understood what they were all about. He learned much of their Ways.

As the sun began to rise on the third day, Grey Fox came over the western ridge, his face painted gold by the sunrise. He found his pupil sitting perfectly still upon the Grandfather Boulder, his hands at his side, palms down, touching the boulder with closed eyes.

Grey Fox smiled and watched his feet as he navigated the rocks; “Ahhh...he has learned.”
