Once again, Standing Deer nearly jumped off the boulder! He lept to his feet.
“You have nothing to fear Young One. Your Teacher has told us of you; we knew of your coming. We have waited many years for you.”
“Many years?”
“Countless years”, proclaimed a third voice. This one sounded familiar.
“Grandmother?”
The Rock People laughed; their laughter filled with the sound of grinding stone and distant thunder. “No Young One...we are far older than any Grandmother that you have known or heard of!”
“Even Grandmother Spider?”
The Rock People were silent for a moment.
“That's a good question; your Teacher chose well.”
