Hamlet
The Greek pupils rehearsed a few critical scenes from “Hamlet” over a twomonth theatre workshop.
Here’s what our young
actors think of the
experience and the play.
I played Horatio, Hamlet’s
best friend in the final
scene when Hamlet dies. I
felt very strange but good
because I played a boy’s
role. This is the opposite
from what happened in
Shakespeare’s time when
young boys played female
roles. Bakousi Smaragda
I think Hamlet feels
betrayed by his mother
and angry about all
women. Ophelia feels sad
because she didn’t have
any
connection
with
Hamlet’s troubles and she
didn’t deserve all this bad treatment from him. I believe that betrayal is ‘evil’
because if the person who you betray is a friend, he will lose any kind of trust
they had for you! Panayiotis Niarhos
Hamlet is a boy whose uncle killed his father to become king and the husband
of his mother. One night Hamlet meets his father’s ghost. The ghost tells
Hamlet that his uncle Claudius killed him and asks him to kill him… My
favourite hero is Hamlet because he’s clever. My favourite scene is the last
one when he dies. I think this play is very good. It’s also a page-turner when
you read it. Giannelis Constantinos, age 11
My favourite hero was Hamlet because he wasn’t afraid and because he
wanted to find who killed his father. My favourite scene was when Hamlet and
Laertes came to Ophelia’s grave. This play is exciting and interesting.
Fasakis Giannis, age 11
“Hamlet” is a tragedy. Hamlet was the son of Gertrude the Queen of
Denmark. His uncle, Claudius killed Hamlet’s father and married the queen.
After this, Hamlet was unhappy. He pretended to be mad. He even pretended
to Ophelia, the beautiful lady whom he loved. Hatzis Dimitris, age 11
