PERIOD CRAMPS

Menstrual cramps are painful sensations that affect many women before and during a menstrual period. The pain, also known as dysmenorrhea or period pains, ranges from dull and annoying to severe and extreme.

Lots of girls experience cramps before or during their periods. Cramps are caused by prostaglandins, chemicals a girl's body produces to make the muscles of the uterus contract. The contracting muscles help push the blood out through a girl's vagina during her period.

Emotional stress can increase the chance of experiencing menstrual cramps.
