Community Benefits Program
The goal of our groundbreaking community benefits
policy passed in fiscal year 2010-11 is to promote positive
community improvements resulting from the agency’s
operations.
This year, we responded to Mayor Ed Lee’s call to provide
San Francisco youth with employment opportunities as part
of his Summer Jobs+ Initiative. We supported employment
opportunities for 650 San Francisco high school youth.
The goals of these investments are to enhance the
competitiveness of young people in the job market, ensure
that we have a skilled and diverse workforce for the future,
and make sure we are a good neighbor to all whose lives or
neighborhoods are directly affected by our services.
In partnership with the San Francisco Arts Commission’s
Community Arts and Education Program, we launched a
new arts enrichment initiative in the Bayview Hunters Point
community, 3rd on Third. Ten Bayview arts organizations
received grant funding to enhance their work. Additionally,
creative writing workshops were held with youth at locations
throughout the community and six new community murals
enliven storefronts. The goal of these investments is to create
art engagement opportunities that support our commitment
to build healthy communities and promote environmental
stewardship.
As the fire burned, we secured replacement power for
City municipal facilities without any service interruptions.
Throughout, the City family worked together to move
resources to support firefighting, assessment, financial
reporting, and, ultimately, recovery efforts.
