• South Florida is currently the eighth most populous
metropolitan area in the United States and the largest in
the Southeast. At 19.9 million, Florida recently surpassed
New York as the third most populous state in the country,
while nearly one third of the state’s population resides in
South Florida.
// POPULATION PROJECTIONS
• From 1980 to 2000, the region grew 2.2 percent annually,
double the growth rate of the nation. Going forward, South
Florida will outpace the nation’s growth through 2030, with
Palm Beach County seeing a faster rate than its neighbors
to the south.
