Despicable Me 2 Review

Have you ever sat around pondering life and its intricacies and then realized that all you really need is a minion army, 3 adorable girls, and a crossbreed dog? Me either, but the character Gru from the popular family movie series has. But in Despicable Me 2 he realizes that he might want something more.

Embracing his new fatherly role, Gru is really stepping up to the plate in this movie. At Agnes’s birthday party, Gru is forced to play the fairy princess when the fairy princess doesn’t come. But that is not all of the hilarious comedy of the movie, the minions are back cuter and funnier than ever. And that is not even the best part! We start out the movie in a research center when all of a sudden; a flying magnet comes out of nowhere and snatches everything up off the ground, work of the villain in the movie. So Gru gets recruited to help take down the evil guy with the AVL or Anti Villain League with his new partner, Lucy. They have to track down something malicious that the villain stole, but what? * Will he find the villain in time to stop him? * What is the villain doing? * What new tricks are the minions up to this time?

The voices of this movie are very distinctive and unique. Of course, as the voice of the overprotective father, Gru, we have none other than the hilarious family man, Steve Carell. In my opinion he is the perfect person for the part of Gru. Especially in Despicable Me 2 with the more family oriented Gru. As I previously stated, Lucy Wilde, the Anti-Villain League agent and *spoiler!* Gru’s love interest and partner, is voiced by Kristen Wiig. That’s right, Gru gets a love interest, something that I really appreciated and that went very well with the plotline of the story. Did you recognize her voice? If you did, its because she also voiced Miss Hattie in the first movie. The voice of El Macho, the villain, changed, originally voiced by Al Pacino, but he backed out because of creative differences, so Benjamin Bratt got the role. As the maturing Margo, Miranda Cosgrove delivers a great performance, making a very believable growing Margo, causing Gru to become an overprotective father. Dana Gaier plays the hilarious, sporty Edith, who plays a lesser role in this movie in my opinion, taking a backseat to her little sister and teenager older sister. And of course we cannot forget about the adorable Agnes, who is voiced by Elsie Fisher. In reality we all know it was the adorable Agnes who softened all of our hearts, even the heart of the villain Gru in the original Despicable Me. And some other fantastic actors voice other minor characters. We cannot forget about those mischievous minions! Pierre Coffin, as well as Chris Renaud voices them. Pierre Coffin has voiced 899 minions. Can you imagine all those glorious minion moments he created and we all loved?

I also got the disk that came with the mini-movies, and let me tell you, they are the most adorable things you will ever see! The mini-movies of “Puppy”, “Panic in the Mailroom”, and “Training wheels” are must-sees that are introduced by Steve Carell, which I thought was a nice touch. They show the minions in all their glory, and training wheels shows Agnes’s adorableness.

You may be asking yourself, who should watch this movie? And to that I say anybody and everybody! Its comedy is perfect for little kids, yet it adds just enough action to make it great for everyone to watch! Another question you may be asking yourself is why should I watch this movie? You should watch this movie because if you do you will fall in love with it, just like I did. You will fall in love with little Agnes, you will laugh along with the minions, and fathers will relate to Gru in this movie because he becomes overprotective of Margo because she starts becoming interested in boys. Yes, the dreaded time for all fathers, seeing their little girls grow up. The last thing you may be asking yourself is what is the message that I will get from this movie? You will be taught that no matter what, family will always be there for you. During bad times and good times. Therefore, in my opinion everyone should watch this movie even if they are skeptical about it. And especially if you saw and loved Despicable Me you will love this movie. I did.
