J:“ It is hard. I don’ t do much sex work. If someone calls me during the day, I do go and get the job done, and that’ s all. I am not like others who spend their days in an apartment and do this thing all day and nothing else. The job I do in the café is enough for my existential purposes. This is some extra earning to cover some of the expenses I have.” Female sex worker
L:“ I start dealing with phone calls, making appointments with clients, if someone comes over during the day, I make sure to schedule the appointments one hour apart, as I offer discretion guaranteed for them and for myself alike. I make the appointment, he comes, I do the job, he leaves.” Transgender sex worker
S:“ Every day is not the same. I could decide to sleep till 5 or 6, then I put an ad up and have two clients. I could have five clients who want massages only. Depends on the clients, and it also depends on my mood. Depends on what kind of matters I have to attend to as well. I start with my morning coffee, and if I have a client I work on them. Normally I make the first appointments at around 3 or 4 o’ clock.” Male sex worker
In terms of working hours, the majority of sex workers stated that they work 4 hours per day on average, however, some of them spend more time on their job, and some do not have specified working hours as they adapt their time to their clients’ needs:
L:“ I used to work 12 hours a day, but now only when need arises. I work now only when I need quick money, when I need money momentarily because I do another job at the same time.” Transgender sex worker
S:“ Well, I normally work from 12 to 5 during the day.” Female sex worker S:“ My standard working time is 5 to 6 hours a day.” Male sex worker
Sex workers tend to dress themselves differently when they work, i. e. they wear garters, sexy underwear, high-heel shoes, and make-up in order to be more attractive for their clients. This attire helps sex workers in their endeavor to keep their clients, and have a positive visual impression at the same time. Otherwise, their style could be described as normal, i. e. resembles the style
of any other person – casual or sporty.
S:“ It depends on the clients’ desire. They know I am a gay man, but they want a cross dresser. I have female underwear, I take care of my hygiene, I wear a wig, even though they know I am a man, but I have to meet their demands to look like a woman. I prepare and dress myself according to my client’ s desire.” Male sex worker
