The majority of sex workers stated that they predominantly work in private
apartments and hotels, however, some said that they work at the cruising
spots, i.e. locations where MSM population is most commonly found.
All respondents stated that they work independently. Only two said that
have cooperated with sex services liaison agents or have had clients’ referral.
All sex workers who were interviewed gave an affirmative answer to the
question: “Do you like your job?”, some even wanted to elaborate further:
L: “If I didn’t like it, I wouldn’t do it.” Transgender sex worker
J: “Of course I like it. If I didn’t like it, I wouldn’t do it.” Female sex worker
A: “Yes, I like my job because I earn good money and I help people in a way.”
Male sex worker
When it comes to changing their profession, half of the respondents stated
that they would stop being sex workers if they were presented with such
an opportunity, and the reasons for that include: being fed up with their
job, exhaustion and the dire future prospects it brings. The other half of the
respondents stated that they would never, under any circumstances, change
their profession, even if they worked in another one, they would still do sex
work on the sidelines.
S: “Well, for more money, but that doesn’t mean that I would give up on sex work.
So what?! I would do some other job which I choose and I get paid for five days a
week, which leaves Saturday and Sunday to do sex work in a hotel or at my place.
I would never neglect this job.” Male sex worker
K: “Well, I can’t say that I could do this all my life. I think I will do this until the
age of forty, because you look good until then and you are still young, everyone
wants you. After that you are older, everything has its due date.”
Transgender sex worker
Lj: “Well, if I could do something else and if I was paid well - it is fine with me,
‘cause I’m sick and tired of this by now. It is not just one or two people; you have
to deal with all sorts of folks.” Female sex worker
Doing sex work does have an impact on sex workers’ intimacy and romantic
life. Sex workers are particularly challenged by their partners who do not
support them in what they are doing.
