Abstinence education tends to focus on one thing: scaring the crap out of everyone with pictures of STDs and overly exaggerated failure rates of every birth control imaginable. Only 12 states actually require medically accurate sex facts, and 8 require that it be medically unbias. That means most states are allowed to make this shit up as they go. Typically, they will tell you sex is painful and not meaningful if you are not married. Not only is al this ineffective, studies have shown that states with abstinence education actually have higher teen pregnancy rates than states that don't. Gee, how crazy is that states who hide beneficial information are actually causing increasing the thing they are trying to prevent! Wow, soooo shocking! Sadly, it gets worse.

Girls are treated like if they ever have sex, they will become used goods that no one will ever want to marry. Their virginity becomes their virtue, but fun fact, virginity does not equal self-worth. These attitudes encourage slut-shaming and bring down a girl's self-esteem because now no one will want her. She'll feel like everyone is talking about her and if some does find out she had sex, then people will stop wanting to be the friend of the school's slut. Girls are treated as though they are weak and cannot protect themselves from men who want to harm them. They are taught not to become sluts by not dressing a certain way, even though I should be able to dress how I want and not have a teacher take me out of class.
