he first Sewa Day took place in 2010. When we originally hatched the idea, all we knew is that we wanted to help those most in need. Those most vulnerable in society. We wanted to persuade those, who could, to donate their time to worthy local community projects. Two questions faced us though. Firstly, how exactly were we going to help people or, if you like, what did we want to be? Secondly, who was going to do what was necessary to achieve our goals and desires? So what are we? We want to positively change people’s attitudes toward community service and by encouraging people from different walks of life to engage with each other, promote greater community cohesion. In the last three years Sewa Day has established itself well and truly as a global social action movement with our activities ranging from straightforward volunteering to human rights campaigning. Indeed, British Prime Minister David Cameron has hailed Sewa Day as one of the most significant community initiatives in the UK today and we have even received recognition from H.R.H The Prince of Wales and H.R.H The Queen herself. We have partnered with the likes of Amnesty International and the Big Issue. A number of government municipalities also support us and we have also received an endorsement from UNESCO. However, our most significant achievement has been the launch of our schools programme. By engaging the youngest in our society in social action, we truly believe we can alter the general DNA to promote greater levels of social consciousness.
With a little help from our friends... Thanks to our dedicated supporters, Sewa Day has grown from 5,000 volunteers in the UK in our inaugural year to over 50,000 people in 2012. Moreover, Sewa Day 2012 took X?H[??\? ???[? ?Y\?\? YX\??\?
