STREAM I.
Biodiversity
1.1
Sample microplastics in the
Arctic waters to evaluate their
abundance in the surface water, water
column, sediment and Arctic sea ice and
perform a life cycle analysis of microplastics present in the Arctic waters;
1.2
Investigate plastic pollution
in the marine biota (e.g. fish,
birds and zooplankton) to estimate the
extent of bioaccumulation of microplastics in marine organisms;
1.3
Develop new biological indicators – marine biota as a new
monitoring tool to estimate regional marine
plastic pollution, the quantities and the
sources of microplastics;
1.4
Evaluate the geographical origin of the invasive species and
the impact of global warming on the possible
colonization of the Arctic waters by invasive species;
1.5
Study the impact of microplastics on the status of endangered
Arctic species (reference to the IUCN Red
List of Threatened SpeciesTM).
