Topic: Climate Change

Climate change is a change in the global or regional climate patterns.

Climate or weather? Weather is what you experience today - sunny, cold, rain, or snow. Climate describes long-term, historical weather patterns and is used to predict the daily weather.

As the climate changes, so too will the landscape due to shifts in precipitation patterns.

Climate change or global warming? Both! Global warming is a rise in the global temperatures which directly impacts the global climate, resulting in climate change.

Around 1896, Svante Arrhenius, a Swedish chemist, proposed that a doubling of CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere would cause the average global temperature to increase by about 5°C. Today, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change scientists have calculated that a doubling of CO2 concentrations would result in an increase between 1.5 - 4.5°C, so Arrhenius wasn't too far off the mark!
