The Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Programs seek to inspire and empower the next generation of ocean caretakers by challenging them to combine art, science, and ocean advocacy.
The Bow Seat believes that students who learn by making experience deeper learning and longer-lasting behavior change. We believe that changing our world for the better starts by inspiring youth to imagine a better future and empowering them to create it themselves. And we believe that, as Jacques Cousteau said, that “people protect what they love.” We support students who communicate their love of the ocean, so that the world can learn to love it – and act to protect it – too.
Each year, The Bow Seat hosts the Ocean Awareness Student Contest which is open to middle and high school students around the world. Talented teens who want to use their creative skills to give a voice to our oceans submit to one of our four categories – art, poetry, prose, or film. By creating exhibitions, publishing student writing, and making awesome merchandise, we are not only bringing ocean conservation into popular culture but we are launching the careers of the next generation of artists and ocean caretakers.
