Thailand
unveils coral bleaching response plan
amidst looming
climate change threats
Thailand’s Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) in cooperation with the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) and IUCN has unveiled a framework response for the proactive monitoring and management of coral bleaching to minimize the impacts of climate change in critical marine areas. A taskforce consisting of DMCR, other relevant government agencies, universities and IUCN has been formed to provide concrete recommendations for swift management actions. This is in response to the third global coral bleaching event that had devastating effects in the northern part of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
