energy research and development, laws passed by working with a challenging Legislative branch, sustainable food initiatives, and a reduction in the number of federal land leases dedicated to fossil fuel exploration to name a few. Without sound policy from a logical administration and a cooperative legislative branch, we can’t solve the environmental problems facing our society today.

If environmental stewardship is important to you this election year, do your part to make it known. Share posts on Facebook, talk to your friends and family, ask questions, watch debates, and research the candidates thoroughly before heading to the polls or putting the stamp on your absentee ballot. In the words of Mission Blue’s Sylvia Earle, “our past, our present, and whatever remains of our future absolutely depend on what we do now.” To combat the multitude of issues facing our oceans, our land, our plant and animal species, and our society, it is important to keep up with your eco-friendly daily habits like refusing single-use plastic bottles. It is also critical, however, that you take the time to cast a vote for candidates that acknowledge the values of peer-reviewed science, has a history of voting for environmentally friendly legislation, and works across party lines to get the job done.
