4. Cabo Rojo is also well known for kayaking, canoeing, boat tours, and water sports. Now for dining, go to the village of Joyuda and dip into any of the dozens of restaurants. Joyuda is known for a mile long road with plenty of outlets lined with chinchorros, or shacks, that sell mouth-watering small plates you will never forget - this is your opportunity to find the real local delicacies. You can enjoy 5-star dining as well, with a handful of must see places to eat and enjoy a beautiful sunset since all the restaurants face the water. Boqueron is a beach village located in the city of Cabo Rojo. The village is one of the main tourist attractions in the southwestern part of the island. The Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge is a habitat for a number of native bird species. Boquerón beach (Balneario de Boquerón) is a public beach and resort - it is rated as one of the best beaches of Puerto Rico. Other beaches in Boquerón are Buyé and El Combate.

5. Lajas is another gem in the west coast, bordering the Caribbean Sea. The most famous city is La Parguera, a small fishing village in the town of Lajas located on the southwest coast of the island. La Parguera is one of four areas in Puerto Rico that has a unique and remarkable night time phenomenon, a phosphorescent bay.
