Due to the precisely controlled conditions created in these tubes , less energy would be required to power hyperloops and could come from renewable sources - making it considerably more economically sustainable than current fossil fuel burning modes of transport .
For decades there has been consensus in the scientific community that air travel is detrimental to the environment through the release of greenhouse gases and its use of kerosene . Additionally , air travel is unsustainable due to its reliance on the finite fossil fuels which we are diminishing at an ever-increasing rate . Hyperloop on the other hand , has the ability to be powered by any type of electrical energy . Furthermore , its low resistance environment means that the hyperloop requires far less energy than other transportation methods . This means renewable sources such as wind turbines can be used to provide the energy required . Some of the tubes used to house the pods have even been designed to have solar panels incorporated into them so , in the future , hyperloop systems may be self-powered .
As easy as it is to compare air travel to the hyperloop , the one imposition the two do not have in common is the amount of physical infrastructure which would be required for a hyperloop to be set up . Sceptics who comment on the safety , reliability and reality of hyperloop would compare the route proposed by Richard Branson , as part of Virgin Hyperloop One , to HS2 ( the controversial London to Manchester railway ) and its ensuing fiasco - branding it as near to impossible . All the same problems thrown up by HS2 , such as the destruction of green belt land and demolition of villages and houses , would also be created by the proposal of a hyperloop and would likely result in a severe backlash . Solutions to this have included running the hyperloops parallel to existing major motorways , or in countries where it is possible , through deserts . As things stand , it ' s clear that hyperloop will become established far sooner in the UAE than any other country as the routes are not subject to the same scrutiny and there is still considerable economic growth .
