Across my exhibition work, I attempted to portray a sense of narrative through a visual depiction of texture. Capturing texture through the wear of an old building or the wrinkles and scars on a face, my pieces try to guide the viewer’ s focus onto detailed elements of a whole subject. Then, I try to encourage viewers to see beyond the physical representation of the object or person and rather see the story behind them. My aim in producing these artworks was to portray the emotional narrative of a subject through artistic expression.
Throughout the Sixth Form I was able to experiment in a variety of different mediums and artistic processes. However, I found that I enjoyed working with mediums that allowed me to focus on detail and tone, such as copper etching and charcoal. Sometimes pieces would take months rather than days, but I liked creating them nevertheless. From a personal standpoint, I enjoyed working on all my projects throughout the IB course and am grateful for the opportunity to pursue my artistic goals in the school’ s Art department.
