Tea Gocheva
My work explores the relationship between space, structure and memory, focusing on how environments shape perception and how meaning can fragment and evolve over time. I am particularly drawn to architectural forms and geometric compositions, using them as frameworks for memory that hold layers of experience and decay. Throughout this body of work, I have explored how images can be disrupted and reconstructed through process. By breaking architectural forms into separate components and experimenting with their reconstruction through multiple mediums, I challenge the idea of fixed structures.
I further pushed myself to understand perception through working with linoprinting and darkroom processes which worked towards the power of absence. Texture became an essential element in my work with practices of pointillism and layered surfaces creating movement across my pieces. Each individual mark contributed to a larger image, aiding me in developing patience and precision, while learning to embrace imperfections.
Through the IB Art course, I have developed a wide range of technical and conceptual work, through experimentation with different media, critically evaluating my work and working outside of my comfort zone. The Art department has been a place for ongoing progression where mistakes are seen as productive, ideas are constantly shared, and there is creative freedom. This body of work reflects my development as an artist and the confidence that I have gained in artistically expressing my ideas.
