My artistic focus is primarily on figures , as well as exploring the interaction between people and their environments , focusing on how figures exist within space , time and emotion . I am particularly interested in the balance between precision and gesture and how realism can merge with abstraction to create sensation and depth .
Through colour , texture and composition , I depict figures that are both grounded in reality and immersed in expressive , fluid surroundings . I experiment with the contrast between control and spontaneity , often allowing backgrounds to dissolve into abstraction while keeping elements of the figure sharp and intentional . I most frequently use oils , as I find this medium is very versatile ; however , I enjoy exploring monoprint , etching , charcoal and oil pastels , and the potential to combine those .
My work is inspired by the complexity of human experience and emotions , which I attempt to depict through how people relate to the spaces around them , whether through colour , structure , or a personal connection to a setting . I explore how colours and brushstrokes influence mood and perception , using them to create a dynamic interplay between subject and environment . Sometimes the background overtakes the figure , while in other instances figures emerge from the abstraction , subtly blending into their surroundings . I take inspiration from artists who use space and gesture expressively , allowing movement , distortion and layering to guide interpretation .
Whether through paint or mixed media , my goal is to evoke a sense of presence , capturing not just a likeness but an atmosphere , an emotion , or a fleeting interaction with space . My work challenges the idea of figures as isolated subjects , instead presenting them as part of a continuous interaction with their surroundings .
