My relationship with linoleum print feels like the progression of a pessimistically sad sitcom couple struggling through a set of mediocre writing rooms being fired and rehired through several disappointing seasons . Throughout the IB course I ’ ve constantly tried to find new ways to explore themes of narrative and subversion through this single medium . I ’ ve enjoyed reinventing my approach to art with each project while I strive for something new and fresh . The graphically flat textures combined with the reductive print style has let me shift and change the characteristics and stylisation in my art throughout the years to better tackle the seminal ideas of representation and perception .
I ’ ve particularly focused on relatively large-scale prints within linoleum . I enjoy the contrast between a medium which places huge emphasis on reproducibility , practicality and speed , and the uniquely large scale I place it in . The size at which I ’ ve produced my prints refutes most of the strengths of the medium . I have to hand print it , the carving takes ages and wears down the tools , I ’ m unable to print many copies and reduction prints are far too much to ask for . Despite that , sculpting with light in linoleum print has allowed me to achieve a unique visual style , which blends illustrative imagery with classic reduction print techniques .
