Max Paillard (OS 2016)
Games Design, Sheffi eld Hallam University 2017–2021
Pursuing a degree in Video Games Design has transformed
my creative process entirely: by incorporating cutting-edge
technology and 3D visualisation software, I have enhanced
my artistic outcomes (such as painting with a brush in a
virtual reality headset and sculpting digital clay with a
mouse and keyboard).
To initiate a piece, I begin with a blank canvas that utilises
all three X, Y and Z axes (thus, three-dimensional).
Building shapes in these workspaces consists of arranging
hundreds and thousands of small polygons, each textured
and lit correctly, most often to achieve a photorealistic
appearance.
My pieces depict high quality 3D renders of digital
environments and game characters, designed to the
demanding technical aspects of the professional industry.
The fi les and folders which contain my art (assets) would
be further given to computer programmers who combine
multiple assets from various artists (eg characters,
environments, weapons etc) to, in turn, develop an
aesthetically pleasing and playable experience that we all
know as a video game.
