Anna Williams
Through my work I have tried to use the materials both
as subject and process, in this way exploring the limits of
what they can achieve, and recognising and manipulating
preconceptions that I have held about line, mass, plane
and texture. This has occurred by explicitly expressing
the development of ideas and learning processes through
repetitive use of materials, as I try to create works that
explore the dialogue between myself and the material. I feel
this has led to themes occurring in my works such as order,
pattern, variation and individuality. I also explore the nature
of the production of art, and the links between excessive
productivity and creativity, through the balance between
value of concept, volume of material and time. In my most
recent work I have done this through the use of repetition of
smaller objects as concept rather than each as an artwork
in itself. This makes my work come across as somewhat
obsessive, which reflects the way in which I create art.
