I dig a hole every day in Camp Green Lake. I have seriously sun burned my neck. My hands are blistered and bleeding. All of my body hurts. X-Ray said that the second hole was the hardest one and he was right about it. At least I found something in my hole! I actually found a fish fossil in my second hole! I showed it to Mr. Pendanski after I had drunk some water. He said that it was interesting but when I asked him“ So do I get the rest of the day off?” he said“ What for?” First I didn’ t understand what he meant. He explained that the Warden wasn’ t interested in fossils. That’ s why I didn’ t get the rest of the day off. I’ m so sad about that. Also can you send me some candy to share with my tent friends? It would make them very happy I think. Perhaps they would like me better too if I gave them something sweet. Tell mom I miss her. I miss you, too.

DEAR FATHER,
As you know, I am spending my time here at Camp Green Lake. I sleep in a grey tent with six other campers. They all have nicknames. I have a nickname now too. I’ m Caveman. I have to dig holes every day. I dig very deep and big holes. That’ s my punishment. I have a hard time. My whole body hurts and I have lots of blisters in my hands. Our bosses Mr. Sir and Mr. Pendanski said that if we found something interesting in our holes we had to give it to them and if the important person, the Warden liked it we would get the day off. Yesterday I found a really cool fish fossil in my second hole. I gave it to Mr. Pendanski, but he said it’ s wouldn’ t be interesting to the Warden. Sadly, I didn’ t get the day off. As I said before I live with six other boys in a tent. I want to give them something, some candy. Can you send me some candy? I really want to share some candy with my friends. I hope you can send me some quickly.

How are you? Are you working on recycling the sneakers? Well, I feel bad. I dig a hole every day and my hands are full of blisters. I have to use a heavy shovel. If you ask me why are you sad to dig one hole then let me tell you, it’ s not that easy to dig a 5 feet wide and 5 feet deep hole every day! The hole thing is not the only thing that makes me sad. Today, when I was digging a hole, I found a fish fossil. Mr Pendanski said“ If you find something interesting, tell me and if the Warden likes it you can rest all day.” So I went to Mr Pendanski and showed him the fossil but unfortunately he didn’ t accept it. He said that the Warden wasn’ t interested in fossils! However, I have made some friends here. They call me the“ Caveman”. I like my nickname because it makes me feel like I belong. Can you send me some candy so I can share it with the other boys in the tent please? I miss you.

THE SPOILT TROUT WALKER
I really enjoy reading the novel Holes by Louis Sachar in my Language Arts lessons. However, the character in the book that I like the least is Trout Walker. Trout Walker is a spoiled and mean person whose feet smell very bad! Trout is a murderer. He kills Sam in the story because he is jealous of him for kissing Miss Katherine. Then he marries a woman called Linda who was once a student of Katherine Barlow’ s. After many years they find Katherine Barlow who has robbed banks and stolen money and together they torture her to try to learn where she has buried her money. So, Trout is also a mean torturer. In the end Katherine Barlow gets bitten by a lizard and she dies. Linda and Trout Walker’ s greatgranddaughter becomes The Warden. The Warden treats people in a mean way to get what she wants. She is just like her grandfather! These are some of the reasons why I don’ t like Trout Walker and his behavior in the book.
