6TH GRADE CORE ENGLISH DEBATE

The project being showcased is a classroom debate that we did discussing school rules and whether they should be changed. In this unit, we learned about certain school rules. During our debates there were two groups, each given a specific time interval to support their argument. One of the groups was supporting the idea that speaking Turkish in English class is better because people can understand each other easier with their native language, allowing students to ask and answer questions much quicker. On the other hand, the other group explained that speaking English in English class helps to improve our English speaking skills. We did this activity to practice school vocabulary, our academic speaking, and supporting details. By having this debate, we were able to both practice our unit two objectives and use our english for a real life purpose.

Students were asked to identify a quote that they were inspired by and explain why. Throughout the year students have been asked to make connections to themselves, other texts, and the world. The goal is that if they can make connections, they can critically think and problem solve and in the future, lead the world to solutions whether locally or globally.

İpek ZEYREK his year, at the beginning of every week, our teachers give us some quotes to think about. Quotes are things that famous or anonymous people say. They are like guides. Their effect on us is: They help us live a better life because they teach us important lessons about life. I think that this is spectacular because“ a guide for life” in 15-30 words is surprising. Just 15-30 words! Also, Daily Quotes are things that people say when they have experience about something. They are important because they teach us useful and necessary things. Simply, the Daily Quote can help us to be better and more successful in our lives. The authors that we use inspire us to do what they say because the sentences are logical and usually true. Quotes guide us towards our future. When we get lost, quotes may help us find the way.
