Kols President Session II (Friday, October 4th – 4pm Pacific Time): Leading off the stamp auction are a number of high-powered USA singles, including two that are missing from all but a few of the most advanced collections. Lot 853, estimated at $75,000 is a fault free graded 75 example of the 1¢ 1851, Type I (Scott 5), fewer than 100 are known to exist. Of these, almost all are faulty. This beauty catalogs in SMQ for a whopping $125,000! Also featured is Lot 1021, estimated at $50,000. It is hands-down, one of the nicest examples of the 24¢ 1869 Inverted Error you’ll hope to see. It is very nicely centered, with an attractive, light cancel. The stamp, with a PSE grade of 70 is identified as #55, with only 83 known. But we don’t just have world-class rarities, other highlights include everything from an extremely fine mint block of the $1 Trans-Mississippi (Lot 1199), to a striking example of the seldom-seen 1877 Balloon Mail semi-official (Lot 1441), and even a newly discovered doubleimpression error on a pair of the 20¢ Marshall stamp of the Prominent Americans (Lot1750). Alan Lipkin Senior Vice President Penney O. Kols Vice President, Marketing In Essays & Proofs you’ll find a wealth of unusual items, including unadopted designs for an 8¢ Zeppelin (Lot 1831), and two additional unaccepted designs for 50¢ 1933 Century of Progress Zeppelins (Lots 1832 and 1833)! Wayne Youngblood V.P. Consignor Relations Michael Goldman Walter Morris Senior Describers As usual, you’ll also find plenty of great EFO items, Plate Blocks, Sheets and Postal History. We feature the last of the Ezra D. Cole material in this sale, both as singles and a few accumulations. Lindsay Cann Neil Coker Charles Lee Grassman Lot Describers Session IV (Sunday, October 6th – 11am Pacific Time): In Foreign stamps, we’re pleased to offer a complete set of the RARE and beautiful “Compania Colombiana de Navegacion Aera” issues, of which no more than 15 sets can ever be assembled (since there are only 15 known of Scott C7). Thomas Jozwik Donnis J. Willis Consignor Relations And then there are the collections and large lots. While nothing can substitute for personally getting elbow deep in these boxes, I’d like to at least mention that a couple of old Tyme Hoards are found here, such as Lot 4457; a stock book chock full of material to keep you out of trouble for some time, and Lot 4461, a disorganized treasure hunter’s dream. There are many more large lots with a great deal of potential, but we’ll let you find them! Cathy R.
