annotated exhibit pages. Highlights include: U.S. City Despatch
Post cancel on stampless 1842 folded letter; U.S. Express Mail
postmark on 1843 folded letter to Albany; 1844 American Letter
Mail Co. stamp on front, toned (PF Cert #512033); Hale &
Co. handstamps on two covers; 1846 folded letter with 15L9,
Philadelphia to Washington, genuine with faults (PF Cert
#512021); genuine 6LB5b added to cover, faults (PF Cert
#512020); two cut-to-shape Boyd’s City Express stamps on
folded letter and Valentine fancy cover; ladies cover with red
‘P.O. City Despatch’ handstamp; 1849 folded letter with 6LB9
not tied but genuine (PF Cert #512030); a couple Blood’s acid
tied on covers; Hussey’s Special Message stamp on corner card;
two American Express money orders, one with red & place
Mankato, Minn. label (1867). A couple of fakes or altered
covers, with certificates. Overall fine, interesting accumulation.

1867 WESTTOWN LOCAL (2¢) GOLD, STREET ROAD

Cover to West Philadelphia, franked with 3¢ Washington, tied
by two strikes ‘Street Road/PA’ postmarks. Affixed to backflap
is small size gold Westtown local stamp, not canceled (Scott
145L2 Type V). Fine to very fine. Also includes a sepia photo
postcard showing Westtown School grounds (unmailed, very
fine). Mounted on annotated exhibit page. Cat $400.
Yellow cover from Ohio to Maine, franked with 3¢ Pictorial,
tied by black cork cancel, and also Swarts’ local post 1¢ blue,
tied by Ohio town postmark. Stamp used well out of period
(early 1850s) and place (New York City), just a label at this
point. Interesting item, fine to very fine.

Entire 3¢ Washington pink (U34) with black star fancy cancel
and August, 1864, Washington, DC, postmark. On back is
scarce ‘Forwarded by the/U.S./Sanitary/Commission’ forwarding handstamp (Kantor Type 1c). Addressed to young lady
in Philadelphia, fine condition, cancel strong.

handstamp (Kantor Type 2a). Addressed to Vermont, fine to
very fine. Scarce.
