Cat $450. 4343 Fascinating group of about 50 covers, almost all with pictorial fancy cancel representing town names ranging from registered covers with block of 5¢ Hawaii with popular fancy Appleton, WI, marking (Apple) and registered cover from Wildwood, NJ, with block of 3¢ Kans. overprint (‘W’), to groups of animals (including Bear, AR; Fox, IL; Squirrel, ID; Wolf, OH; and more), numbers (with Fifty Six, AR; Seventy Six, KY; Big Four, WV; more), as well as ships, airplanes, anchors, trees and many others. Most 20th century fancy cancels utilized only for a few days by Fourth Class post offices. Nearly all are scarce, some quite rare. Nice grouping, few damaged, some cacheted. Fine overall, little duplication. From long buried Ezra D. Cole stock. $250 Unusual usage on a circular. Local at upper right with red ‘PAID’ cancel (does not tie), additional red ‘American Letter Mail Company’ oval.
