service

This past semester, my home club participated in a lot of in-house service projects after club meetings. These were really popular among our new and prospective members because we were able to show what CKI was really all about: service! One of my favorite projects was making alphabet and math flash cards. All you need is markers and a pack of index cards! Our first group of index cards had alphabet letters; our second group had third-grade level multiplication and division (aka: the multiplication table).
Overall, this was a great project for our new club. Not only did it allow members to meet each other, but we are all doing great service! With 15-20 active participants, we created 40 “packs” of flash cards to donate to a local library. There, they will be distributed among kids who visit the library on the weekends through a reading program.

UW-Eau Claire Circle K planned a 5 day Habitat for Humanity trip to Lafayette Louisiana with 3 other clubs in the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan district. The 33 members that participated in 960 hours of service, built 3 homes for people in need.

During their Fall Call Conference the Carolina’s District of CKI rallied at the Charlotte Food Bank to help sort supplies and with other cleaning that needed to be done. Work included sorting toys for children and sorting food and toys for animals. One group was also given the daunting task of cleaning huge bins of Capri Sun drinks. Many hours of service were performed and a great impact was made for the Charlotte Food Bank.
