Hey everyone! The ELIMINATE Project is making some huge progress over the past month! In fact, since September 28th 2013, validation surveys have confirmed that Maternal and Neo-Natal tetanus was eliminated in Sierra Leone and Gabon! Congratulations, CKI! You’re a worldwide contributor to this wonderful cause! Currently, the project is trying to push for Trick-Or-Treat for UNICEF to raise money for Eliminate. Together, we can help eradicate this terrible disease. UNICEF and Kiwanis International are working extremely hard to reach their goal of $110 million by 2015. Circle K International has raised US$159,265.80 since 2010! That’s extremely amazing! We are well on our way to reaching our goals if CKI keeps everything up. Our amount-per-member goal is currently $7.40, but CKI currently stands at a $11.56 member average today! I know that if CKI puts it’s head in the game this year, we can be much closer to protecting the connection between mothers and their children by annihilate Maternal and Neonatal tetanus.
For those of you who were in Key Club or KIWNIS, you
probably remember the orange boxes you would take with you
instead of a candy bag on Halloween. Did you know that you
could do more than just Trick or Treat with them? You can go
to local supermarkets and department stores and also ask
them to showcase the box for charity! At the end of Halloween, you can then take the boxes back and accumulate how much you’ve raised! The
ELIMINATE website itself has some wonderful ideas for Trick or
Treat! I highly encourage you to utilize them! The projects are
located at this site. Pumpkin smashes, Pie eating contests,
Horrorfests, and a plethora of other events that could possibly
inspire you to make your Halloween service project an
ELIMINATE one. The possibilities are endless! Get into that Halloween spirit and protect the connection! One of my favorite projects to do for Halloween Extravaganza, where we charge admission fee for people to bob for apples, halloween trivia, mummy wrap, and even host a costume contest for the night! With this kind of project, you can accommodate many volunteers and also have fun doing so. I know that the Service Committee is coming up with more ideas for Trick-Or-Treat for UNICEF, so please be sure to look up that resource and use it to your advantage!
