it besides walking to class in the rain but other than that it is wonderful! This year I hope to help spread the word about the March of Dimes and it’s mission.

The March of Dimes is an organization that is fighting to help all babies be born healthy. Its mission is to help prevent birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. This organization benefits everyone. It has even benefited you even though you may not have realized it. The March of Dimes was started to help fight against Polio back in 1938. Through fundraising and research the March of Dimes helped in the discovery of the Polio vaccination. The March of Dimes is a primarily fundraising organization. The two big events the March of Dimes hosts are Signature Chef Auctions and March for Babies. March for Babies events are held through out the United States and are easy to get involved in. The funds raised by the March of Dimes go towards researching the many different problems babies face before and after they are born. Currently 15 million babies are born too soon every year. That can also be broken down to 1 and 9 babies in the United States is born early. These are just some of the statistics the March of Dimes has.

I am personally passionate about the March of Dimes because it has affected my life. My twin sister, Morgan, and I were born six weeks premature. Together we barely weighted five pounds. We both spent time in the NICU and needed constant care. Unfortunately, my sister past away at nine weeks old from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Since then I have been passionate about the March of Dimes. I have volunteered for them for many years and just completed an internship at one of their Indiana chapters this summer.

There are many ways to get involved with the March of Dimes. A good first step is to contact your local March of Dimes Chapter. All of this information can be found on the March of Dimes website. Clubs, divisions and districts can raise money for the March of Dimes in many ways too. You could hold a bake sale; ask for donations or other creative ways to raise money. Another important aspect of the March of Dimes is advocacy. It is not only important to raise money but to also get the word out about these issues. Many people do not know about the problem of premature birth or how it can affect them. Many people also do not know how the March of Dimes has already affected them!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or if you need help with anything relating to the March of Dimes!

I am Kelsey Gower the March of Dimes Ambassador for this year. I go to school at Manchester University located in the lovely Indiana District. At Manchester I am senior studying Communication Studies. I have no idea what I really want to do with my life but I hope to be helping people and improving communities in some capacity. One of my many favorite service projects is helping deliver care bags to families in the NICUs (neonatal intensive care unit). I also enjoying raking leave, making dog toys, and tons of other service projects! Some fun facts about myself are I love dogs, I know how to crochet, and I collect piggy banks. Also another fun fact about me is I am studying abroad in Cheltenham, England this fall semester! I am enjoying every minute of
