ART ART ART!

Gabby Wilderson a student at East High School put together a service project that helped students in her local community learn the importance of art. This project occurred on May 8, 2019 at Wasatch Elementary School. The project was very helpful to the teachers and very well thought out. Ms. Turners English 2010 class all went to the elementary school and helped put together art portfolios for their art night.

Some of the students had the task to glue the art on larger pieces of paper to make the portfolios. They had to make sure they were evenly spaced, and everything looked good. Zoe Brown said, “Making the portfolios was really fun! I loved the positive feedback from the teachers.” The rest of the students had to hang ribbon on the wall for the portfolios to hang from. Gabby had counted and they had to have exactly six squares in between each ribbon for the portfolios to fit properly. “The teachers were so happy that they didn’t have to climb up on the chairs to put up the ribbon, it was so nice to see how happy they were” says Abby Florence. Overall, the teachers were so happy to have the students be there and have so much work get done.

Gabby wanted to promote creativity in elementary schools. There are so many benefits when children have been exposed to art at a young age. When they are able to express creativity in their own way and it is celebrated it makes a big impact on their adult life. This gives them a way to turn their thoughts and feelings into something physical. This project gave teachers an extra way to help their students express their creativity more.

Overall, she accomplished the goal of helping people in her community. She put together a service project that was well thought out and benefited many people. With so many helping hands it saved the teachers many hours of work. Gabby says, “this project was so fun, and I loved helping out the teachers and seeing how happy the kids were on art night.
