Secondary Partnerships: Kent Academies Network( KAN)

Launched in 2013, KAN is an exciting four-year university access programme.
It aims to remove barriers to higher education by developing students’ confidence, knowledge and agency so they can set ambitious goals and ultimately reach them.
The programme involves eligible students at Knole, Skinners’ Kent, Marsh and John Wallis academies as well as Leigh Academy Minster. Programme activities include biannual residentials, termly meetup days, preparation and advice on personal statements and interview technique, visits to universities, access to Sevenoaks School’ s Higher Education resources and mentoring from university students.
There are 78 students in the 2021- 2024 cohorts, of whom 69 % are first generation university students, 65 % live in social or rented housing, and 34 % qualify for pupil premium.
100 % of last year’ s cohort who completed the KAN programme, secured a place to study for a degree or degree apprenticeship. We are thrilled that nine of our 23 current mentors are KAN alumni and five are Old Sennockians.
