Herewith some safety considerations for an inland inflatable boat drift:
•Although human powered craft and power-driven craft up to 15HP are excluded from the National Small Vessel Safety Regulations 2007 Category R (pleasure craft), the regulations give us some indication on the rules and recommended equipment to be carried.
•It should be heeded from the regulation that the person in charge of the craft is responsible for the safety of his passengers and that it is considered as reasonable that every child under the age of 12 years shall wear a PFD (personal floatation device) while the craft is underway.
The craft
•The craft should have at least two independent buoyancy chambers.
•Each chamber to be sufficient to keep all passengers and payload afloat.
•Self-bailing type preferred.
•Do not overload, follow the rated person and weight limitations of the
manufacturer.
