On arrival the guides assembled a pontoon boat and we started to fish. One guide was operating the boat and the other scaled the high sides of the lake to spot. The first cast is always a nervous affair with a new guide, but casting in such thin air was no problem and soon I was into a fish that melted all nervousness and headaches. Plenty fish were landed up to 2kg. The guides are professionals and decked out a typical Peruvian lunch. With my limited Spanish, I eavesdropped into the guides chatter and learned that fly fishing is not that big in Peru and that they have difficulty in getting fly tying material such as hooks and beads. If you go there take some beads along! I have also learned that they often guide South Africans around South America and have even fished in Botswana!
