Day 9

Xmas day....we got up and walked to the waterfall, what a stunning view and Mike started fishing - 6 yellows later we decided to pack up and move on to Roma.

We went over Blue mountain pass. We also, to our surprise, saw a Bushbuck in the wild. This pass has hardly any people staying here. We got to Blue mountain pass...tar ...then onto "Help God Pass" and then down "Bushmen's pass" into Roma. We got a stunning campsite at Roma trading post.

Day 10

Today we headed to Semonkong. On the way there we searched for supplies but could not find anything. In town we found a little place to buy beers and we had pap and pork braaied meat. The lodge has a lovely restaurant - pity we only realized this after already having lunch. Here a campsite cost R150 pppn and a guide to take us fishing R180 per day. We set up camp and made a potjie.

I also got a Maluti blanket..."likobo". We had geese, donkeys and horses in the campsite. It felt a bit like "Old Mac Donald had a farm"

Day 12

The river turned to chocolate brown during the night and thus no fishing....

So we had breakfast at the lodge and then took a ride to the falls.

Again we took a 4x4 track down to the falls...it is truly stunning scenery.

And we found eggs - something they seem to have a shortage.

We saw a Crown Eagle in the trees at the campsite while Mike tied some flies and I had a nap. At 3 we went on the donkey pub crawl... at the first pub we had a Maluti and off to the second pub....this pub we knew as have been buying our Maluti from them the previous day.

My donkey displayed some leadership skills and kept ahead of Mike’s donkey.

Pub 3.... This pub we have been avoiding as the music played so hard you can hear it from the other side of town. But yet here we were.... Mike played pool with the locals and then off we went downhill with the poor donkeys again.

We organize a guide for next day and met some people from Durban...Mark, Cheryl and Greg - very pleasant people. We also discovered that there was a member of Jacaranda club at the lodge. We braaied late and went to bed....Had serious fun ..!!!!!!!

So today is the second day at Semokong. We got to the guide at 6:30 am( late as usual ) and walked for about 2 km up the Maletsunyane River and fished. The first brown trout was caught after the 3rd cast. The wind was bad and the guide sleeping most of the times. Mike got a second brown trout and that brought us to lunch time.

We went back to camp and then up to the shops to get beers and bread....

We had a little snooze and then the heaven open with hail wind and rain.

We decided it would be a great idea to eat at the restaurant as everything was wet and muddy.

Good food and good wine(2) and R1000 later
