Luckily there are many options around Oxbow Lodge and we shifted our attention to the Tsehlanyane, a (usually) tiny perennial stream which now gleamed with all the water coming down from the escarpment. We fished it up- and downstream of the road bridge for the next two days, landing numerous willing bows by casting to both sighted fish and likely lies. As expected it was dry fly heaven with only the odd fish in the deeper pools requiring a dry and (very long = 2.5m) dropper. The rainbows were generally in the 20-30cm range which is bigger than the average size I found fishing there in 2016 and 2017, possibly hinting that the system is recovering from the lean years.

Jeandre at his “honey hole”… again (think he eventually got 4 from that pool) and a typical sized rainbow gobbling up Mark Yelland’s Deer

Hair Hopper (see I do concentrate during fly tying).
