Knowing the rivers would still be dangerously high we decided to focus on the eastern highlands for the first part of the trip. These streams are all 2500 - 3100m above sea level and from experience I knew that they would drop fast and that some gnarly rainbows sometimes press higher up into the headwaters when the water levels are up.

Arriving at Oxbow Lodge, things did not start off well - the little stream that runs next to the lodge were flowing bank to bank and fast. Obviously we still gave it a shot but fishing was hard and I got the only fish on a streamer in the only deep pool for miles.
