Fishing with Brani was a learning experience as we had slightly different tactics to counter the clear water and spooky fish. Where I fished a fairly long line & leader upstream, Brani would often choose a much more side on, even downstream, approach.
This involved some stealthy sneaking around the likely lie, followed by a slack line presentation. This resulted in the fly drifting onto the fish with the leader upstream of it. He managed to convert way more strikes than me into solid hook-ups, while also avoiding lining the fish with his leader. The CDC caddis pattern he used also worked a charm, staying afloat much better than the RAB’s I fished.
We left Lesotho early Saturday morning after sleeping like the dead thanks the crisp high altitude air and utter exhaustion. My sport watch counted almost 40 000 steps for the two days. Typical Lesotho fishing, hard but so so rewarding.
Stalking Lesotho bows with some nice loops & the CDC caddis imitation Brani used to good effect.
