Day 6
Our final day was here and we were getting the hang of this thing they call bait fishing. The goal: “Get Maryke on to a decent Tigerfish”. If everybody in the family enjoys fishing, everybody can go fishing more often.
First drift of the day, first cast of the day and she was on! Only for the line to snap 4 feet away from the boat. So close!! Next drift, next cast and she was on again!! Maryke always said I was a bit of a backseat driver while I was screaming: “Keep the rod tip down! Keep reeling! Don’t get slack in the line.” And the line snapped again!! Thankfully, she is a very lucky person (apart from the fact that she is married to me).
The next cast she was on again! And she landed the fish very quickly this time. What a beauty! (See photo on previous page). The fish was also not too bad. Braam landed a decent fish around the 3.5kg mark and Manie also landed a good tiger in a double hook-up. We all caught a bunch more and had a whale of a time. A big storm was brewing and we had to head back to camp to get the boat out of the water.
